POINT GREY PHOTOGRAPHY PRESENTS: PRESENCE

The work selected for this exhibit revolves around the idea of anonymity.

The characters within the images have no names, they are not persons; they are simply there.  Characters in a scene, available for imprinting with our own ideas, our own stories.  In some of the images we ourselves are the character, the anonymous witness.  We are present.

The images ask you to explore suggested narratives through your own participation.  No answers are given, only questions.

GRAPHICS 10: COMPOSITION PROJECT 1

GRAPHICS 10
Our Graphics 10 class is learning compositional theory, discovering how to manipulate positive and negative space by arranging contrasting colored rectangles. I ripped this project out of the amazing Chip kidd's great book "Go: A Kidds guide to Graphic Design".

PG Art Department takes New York

Every two years, Point Grey art students are given the opportunity to spend a week of their spring break exploring New York City. This year, 24 lucky students visited the Big Apple alongside the beloved photography, art, and design teacher, Mr. Long, the lovely Drama teacher, Ms. Correia, and the famed former graphics and photography teacher, Mr. Bosello.

Our adventures began in New York with a walking tour through the neighbourhood of Harlem and finished with an afternoon at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens. In-between, we saw the quintessential sights: we ascended the Empire State Building, ventured through the Financial District, crossed the Brooklyn Bridge, and stood in front of some of the world's greatest masterpieces at the MET and MoMA. We also got off the beaten track and explored parts of the city that one would not always think to explore. One afternoon was spent on a culinary walking tour through the trendy Greenwich Village. We sampled everything from balsamic vinegar to cheesecake, all of which were fantastic. Another day we ventured to Bushwick, Brooklyn, a neighbourhood that has been revived by street art. No building in the neighbourhood had been left untouched by spray paint. There were murals three storeys high and tiny portraits on sidewalks. We were all in heaven.

Many thanks go out to Mr Long, who made this dream of a trip become a reality.
